Ad from the Past: 1956 Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis
One of the reasons that I like old car ads is that they open a window for the reader into the times in which they were written. Here’s an example.

Future Collectibles – 1981-82 DeLorean DMC-12
On a trip through southwest Florida not long ago, I spied what looked to be a blast from the past – a storefront with the “DMC” logo of the DeLorean Motor Company.

Future Collectibles – 1981-82 DeLorean DMC-12
On a trip through southwest Florida not long ago, I spied what looked to be a blast from the past – a storefront with the “DMC” logo of the DeLorean Motor Company. It turned out to be one of five, U.S. locations of the DeLorean Motor Company.

Ad from the Past – 1973 AMC Levi’s Gremlin
Transition. That, in a nutshell is what the Seventies were all about for automakers. Even as insurance and energy concerns were ushering the muscle cars off the stage, a cast of new, domestic-built subcompacts was being shoved into the spotlight.

Ad from the Past: 1968 Plymouth Barracuda
More than most manufacturers, Plymouth’s late 60′s marketing strove to be in tune with the times. Starting in 1969, Plymouth color choices included “High Impact” hues with tongue in cheek names: Tor-Red, In-Violet and Moulin Rouge, to name a few.

Rear View Mirror: 1962 Ford Galaxie
With the horsepower race in full stride, Ford came out swinging in ’62 with a new V-8 engine, aimed at Chrysler’s 413 Max Wedge and Chevy’s 409. Though dubbed the Thunderbird 406, the Ford big block was only offered initially in the Galaxie 500 and 500XL models.

Ad from the past: Put a tiger in your tank, ca. 1965
A 1965 ad for Esso, which eventually became Exxon, which eventually became Exxon Mobil.
Back in ’65, when the company was, uh, still Humble, putting a tiger in your tank was
their primary marketing pitch for the performance boost provided by their gasoline.
